An Bord Plenala has given the green light to the M28 Cork to Ringaskiddy motorway despite strong objections mounted by locals
The motorway was the subject of a Bord Pleanala oral hearing at the end of last year where the M28 Steering Group, which represents up to 10,000 residents in Rochestown and Douglas, called for an alternative route to be found..
They say the €180 million motorway will lead to an increase in traffic volumes, air and noise pollution and will have a detrimental impact on the quality of life for residents in the area.
However the motorway is seen as a vital expansion of the Port of Cork container facility at Ringaskiddy and an economic enabler for further growth in the region..
