BT Young Scientist Winner Won't Be Drawn On Which Tech Companies May Be Interested In His Project

Greg Tarr from Bandon Grammar School won the top prize for new software that detects 'deepfake' media more accurately and quicker than existing models.

The project uses artificial intelligence and contains over 150,000 lines of Code.

Speaking to Ray Foley on Breakfast on Cork's RedFM, Greg outlines what inspired him to enter the project in this years competition:

"Really I really can't, but it's, it's been an It's been an amazing couple of days. It's [deepfake media] becoming such a big threat to privacy, democracy and national security. And there are no systems in place that are efficient enough to be able to be deployed at the scale required. And so my project was essentially highlighting and solving the fact that people normally focus on accuracy rather than speed which is essential for this large scale deployment."
