Builders To Include Double The Number Of Social And Affordable Homes Under Government Plans

Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien is planning in making changes to the Part Five (V) rules
The proposed changes would mean that 10 per cent of new builds must be social housing and a further 10 per cent needs to be affordable homes.
Minister O'Brien says it will apply to all new planning permissions once the legislation comes into place:
"I will have a sunset clause for the old legislation, so if someone doesn't build out what they have, this requirement would then come in after a five year period for existing planning permission. They would then have to operate with the additional 10% affordable. And so not only will we be bringing it in for new applications, but if older permissions that haven't been activated aren't activated within a given period of time, this new provision will apply to them too."
