Buyers warned to be vigilant as scammers target online advertising sites

The spotlight is being put on the safety mechanisms behind online classified advertising websites in Ireland. It comes after a Cork man was scammed out of €5,000 when he purchased a car on Done Deal. Albert unknowingly bought a stolen car on the site - a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest because the Gardaí presumed he was behind the robbery of the vehicle. DoneDeal have moved to defend their policies and say due to data protection they are constrained in their ability to prevent these types of occurrences. Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Melrona Doyle from Done Deal says they work closely with the authorities to solve issues like this which arise but she believes most sellers on the site are genuine Click PLAY to hear audio
