Cabinet To Be Briefed On Timetable Needed To Hold Abortion Referendum Next Summer

The cabinet will be briefed this morning on the timetable needed to hold an abortion referendum in May or June next year.

Simon Harris will outline what needs to happen next, ahead of the Oireachtas committee on the 8th amendment publishing their final report tomorrow.

 

The cabinet meets for the final time this year later, and the Taoiseach has suggested they'll need to adopt a united view on abortion.

 

Leo Varadkar says they'll have a debate, but there will still be collective cabinet responsibility for any recommendation:
