Cabinet to discuss Bandon flooding

The army had to be deployed to the West Cork town after it was left under feet of water following Storm Desmond.

Cabinet Ministers are to discuss emergency funding for areas affected by flooding in the wake of Storm Desmond including Bandon where up to 1,500 people marched through the town and called on the Government to deliver a flood relief scheme immediately.

The fire brigade pumped 5,000 gallons of water from the streets after up to 30 properties were badly damaged in the town by flood waters.

A multi-million euro Flood Relief Scheme commissioned by the OPW and Cork County Council is in the pipeline but the delay in the project has been slammed by traders.

Chief Executive of Cork County Council Tim Lucey told the Neil Prendeville Show if the Cabinet fail to compensate traders he would have to seriously consider if the Council would be able to step in and offer financial assistance:
