Calls for alcohol excise tax to be cut

The call comes from the Support Your Local Campaign.

Calls are being made for the alcohol excise tax to be cut in a bid to support tourism.

It comes on foot of a new report which shows the Irish pub is the number one reason why overseas visitors travel to Ireland.

In Cork, €433 million was spent by overseas visitors in 2013.

18% of tourists dine in pubs in the city, that figure stands at 19% in the county.

Speaking to RedFM News, Bart Storan of Support Your Local Campaign says he hopes the government will no longer target alcohol.
