Calls for change to student grant assessment process

Recent figures show that over half of the applications in Cork last year were successful.
Calls are being made for changes to the assessment process in place for student maintenance grants.
It comes as figures from Student Universal Support Ireland show that over half of almost 8,000 applications in Cork last year were successful.
SUSI has come under fire in recent years for the delay in grants being awarded but they're confident that this year will be different.
Half of the 97,500 applications they have received so far this year have already been processed.
The grants processing body are calling on applicants to submit requested additional information as soon as possible to prevent delays.
Speaking to RedFM News, CIT Students' Union President Shane Falvey says students are being assessed under criteria that doesn't always reflect their current situation.
