Calls for Cobh specific ambulance service

Local GPs are also being called on for their support.

Calls are being made for an ambulance to be based out of the East Cork area in a bid to enhance emergency cover for those living in Cobh and the Great Island areas.

A local councillor in the town says she raised the issue about lack of cover in the area and response times with the National Ambulance Service after her aunt’s two-year-old son went blue and non-responsive after a seizure. 

Sinead Sheppard says the child has recovered but the wait for an ambulance made her realise that had one been based out of Cobh or East Cork it would have been quicker. 

The National Ambulance Service responded to the query saying they have commissioned a capacity review, which will  enable the most appropriate utilisation of ambulance services to meet target requirements - something which local councillors branded an unacceptable response. 

Local GPs are being called on for their support in lobbying for 24-hour cover in the absence of this specific ambulance cover.
