Calls For Government To Urgently Announce Plans For Schools To Re-open

Opposition parties will meet with Ministers later today, with schools due to welcome back students on January 11th.

Cork Sinn Féin TD Donnchadh O'Laoghaire says it's hard to see how schools can open safely, given the spiralling cases of covid 19.

He's calling on the Education Minister to announce the Government's plan as soon as possible:

"It seems to me, as much as I regret it, that schools are very unlikely to open on the 11th in the normal manner. So at this point, what the minister needs to do is give people time to prepare, particularly schools, but also parents and families as well for that day, we need to know what's currently happening there whether its remote learning or whether its phased learning, what provision is going to be there for special education."
