Calls for greater Garda presence on Cork streets

Calls are being made for a greater garda presence after a young boy was jabbed by a heroin addicts' needle while playing at a school on the north side of the city The 5 year old boy had to be treated in hospital after he picked up the needle which had been thrown into the play area of the North Presentation primary school minutes before break time yesterday. The school says the incident occurred because of issues outside of the school and says the Board of Management has already raised concerns regarding anti-social behaviour in the lanes around Gerald Griffin Street to the local Gárdaí and are working in co-operation with them. Parents dropping children off at school reported seeing two seperate incidents of users 'shooting up' in the area yesterday.
