Calls for higher rent supplement in Cork County

Calls are being made for the extension of the higher rent supplement scheme to include towns in Cork county.

Threshold's Tenancy Protection Service says in the past 12 months they have prevented more than 2,600 people in Cork from being made homeless.

The service works to keep tenants in their homes and reduce the pressure on homeless services across Cork.

Rent allowance for a single person in the city and county stands at €550 however if a tenant is experiencing difficulties they can apply for a protocol which is a higher rent supplement amount.
