Calls For Independent Review Of OPW's Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme

The Fianna Fáil leader has called for an independent review of Cork's Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme.

Micheál Martin has expressed concern about the €140 million plan and the impact it might have on the aesthetic quality of the city.

Critics of the plan say it focuses on raised quay walls and embankments which could threaten the historic fabric of the city and have called for a tidal barrier instead. 

The Office of Public Works are currently reviewing over 1,200 submissions made in relation to the scheme - among those the popular suggestion of a tidal barrier.
