Calls for long term solution to student housing shortage

It comes as thousands of students are set to take up places at colleges Leeside in the coming weeks.

Fresh calls are being made for a long term solution to the student housing shortage Leeside. 

UCC and CIT are reporting a major lack of accommodation for students ahead of the start of the academic year with up to 10,000 places being offered to students between the two colleges. 

Students' unions nationwide are calling on local property owners to consider renting out a room to students under a tax incentive scheme which could see a landlord avail of up to €12,000 euro tax free on the income they receive. 

Speaking to RedFM News, UCC Students' Union President Aiden Coffey says there's a responsibility on both the colleges and the government to tackle the issue.
