Calls for more student accommodation in Cork
Cork has just 3,788 beds dedicated for student accomodation
Fresh calls are being made for the government to work with colleges and developers to ensure more student accommodation is constructed Leeside.
It comes after it the Higher Education Authority revealed that Cork has just 3,788 beds dedicated for student accommodation
This falls far short of the numnber of beds needed annually which is estimated to stand at about 12,000
Yesterday the Education Minister announcement that an inter departmental steering group is to examine HEA proposals on tackling the shortage.
The Higher Education Authority report identifies the positive impact living in on campus accommodation has on retention rates, student engagement and the local economy.
Speaking to RedFM News, CIT Students' Union President Shane Falvey says he hopes the government will follow through on the recommendations:
