Calls For New Cork Town To Be Developed

An Bord Pleanala is being urged to give the green light for a new town on the outskirts of the city. Senior officials from the County Council has warned that if the town does't get the go-ahead there could be a shortage of housing in the future. The council is proposing to build the town at Monard, near Blarney. The plans include building over 5,000 homes on a phased basis when the economy picks up. A decision on the new town is expected by July the 17th and if the development gets the go ahead it will only be the second complete pre-planned town to be built in Ireland.
