Calls for public inquiry into nursing home deaths intensifying

21 residents died at Ballynoe Nursing Home in Whitescross during January and February after contracting Covid-19.

The show heard from family of the residents who died and whistleblowers who worked at the nursing home and concerns were raised about the outbreak was handled.

Speaking in the Dáil in the past half hour, Cork TDs Mick Barry and Pádraig O'Sullivan both called for a public inquiry into nursing home deaths:

SOLIDARITY TD MICK BARRY : I want to support again, loudly and clearly, the call for a national inquiry into nursing home care and nursing home deaths in the time of COVID. I think that the case for that is now unanswerable.

FIANNA FÁIL TD PÁDRAIG O'SULLIVAN: Over a number of months I've been seeking answers to questions raised by grieving families, I now too will join calls for a public investigation into this issue. This again was something we would have asked for while serving on the COVID committee last year. In light of what was reported last night I don't think further delays are acceptable.
