Calls For Safety Review Of Cork Motorway

A call has been made for a safety audit to be carried out on a section of motorway in East Cork. It comes after a driver in his 80's was killed when he went down the wrong way of the carriageway and hit an oncoming car head on. The 2 car collision occured on Tuesday morning at Harper's Island on the main Cork to Midleton Road. The Mayor of Midleton, has now called on the Road Safety Authority to review road markings and signs on the road in bid to prevent similar tragedies from happening. Councillor Niall O'Neill wants the NRA to see if improved signage and an automated flashing warning light system could be implemented to warn drivers of going in the wrong direction.
