Calls for the dredging of Cork rivers

It's in a bid to prevent further flood damage Leeside.
Cork County Council is calling on Inland Fisheries Ireland to allow the dredging of some Cork rivers in an effort to prevent further flooding.
The organisation are preventing the dredging of rivers in Bandon, Skibbereen, Glanmire and Clonakilty as they want no works to be carried out when the OPW have flood relief measures planned for the areas.
It understood that the council has the authority to overturn this decision in emergency circumstances.
It follows the announcement that leading flood campaigner Gillian Powell is standing as an independent candidate in Cork South West in the general election.
Speaking to RedFM News, Jer Buckley from the Irish National Floods Forum says the OPW should make the decisions about dredging rivers Leeside.
