Calls for unaccompanied learner drivers to be deterred from roads
A road safety group says unaccompanied learner drivers need to be deterred from taking to the roads.
PARC made the comments on foot of the inclusion of the Clancy Amendment to the Road Traffic Bill which will make owners liable when their vehicle is used by an unaccompanied learner driver.
The amendment came about after a fatal North Cork crash, involving an unaccompanied learner driver, which claimed the lives of mother and daughter, Geraldine and Louise Clancy before Christmas 2015.
It's emerged that 150 unaccompanied learner drivers were involved in serious or fatal collisions on our roads in the past five years.
Speaking to RedFM News Susan Gray from PARC says the laws need to be tightened further in order to stamp out the practice:
