Calls have been made for extension of Litter Wardens hours to include weekends

It comes as the County Council has moved to install up to 16 portaloos for the summer season at beaches and coastal towns across Cork

Concern was raised by a local councillor last weekend about the large numbers descending on Crosshaven and the amount of litter being  generated by the crowds who fail to take their rubbish home

Cllr Audrey Buckley says she has been involved in coastal clean ups for over 15 years and says more action is needed on the issue

Speaking to RedFM News she says it's time litter wardens patrolled beaches and coastal towns at the weekends particularly over the summer months:

"Well the portaloos right now are being, they should be installed by this weekend, the Council staff, they're doing it right now. Where the bins are concerned, again as Seamus McGrath and myself have emotion in to try and get litter wardens for weekends because you know, they finish at five o'clock during the week and there's nobody on weekends. And that's when most of the issues would occur."
