Calls to have city rates revised downwards

Cork Business Association is leading calls to have city centre rates to be reviewed. The CBA says rates haven't taken into account the circumstances facing city centre traders over the past number of years with fears being expressed that more businesses will move out of the city centre leaving premises idle if favourable conditions are not created for traders. It's hoped the planned revamp of Merchant's Quay shopping centre and the sale of the former Capitol Cinema on the Grand Parade which has been vacant for almost a decade will also help to attract business.
