Calls to prevent work related deaths in Cork

It comes as Cork was recorded as having the highest number of work fatalities in 2016

The Health and Safety Authority says the number of work related deaths in Cork is disappointing.

Cork had the highest number of work related deaths with 8 people losing their lives at work last year.

Although they welcomed figures released this week showing a 20% reduction in the amount of workplace related accidents nationally in 2016, they say more needs to be done to prevent such accidents in the future.

Speaking to RedFM News HSA Chief Executive Martin O' Halloran says the numbers of deaths in Cork is disproportionately high.
