Calls To Raise Higher Income Tax Rate To €50,000
There are suggestions that the point at which the higher income tax rate kicks in should be raised to €50,000.
At the moment the 40% rate applies to those earning just over €34,000, while everyone who earns less than this pays 20%.
Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes wants to see the rate change over the next 5-7 years
He says it's the only way to be fair to middle income earners:
