Cancelled Swim Doesn't Dampen Spirits At Youghal's Ironman

The event got underway with a bike ride earlier this morning
Ireland's first ever Ironman challenge has gotten underway in Cork this morning.
2,600 participants from 62 countries have descended on Youghal for one of the most highly anticipated events of the year -
They've started off on bike this morning after a cancelled swim due to weather conditions.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather alert for heavy rain for Cork from today with forecasters warning of between 25mm and 40mm of rain by 5pm this evening.
Ironman Cork is worth an estimated €8 million to the local economy and it's hoped the knock on effects of the event will be felt right throughout the county.
Jim Kennedy of Atlantic Sea Kayaking, who is in the town for the event, says it'll also be a boost for tourist trails like the Wild Atlantic Way and the Ancient East trail:
