Cannabis growhouse found in Macroom

Gardai have arrested four Polish men for questioning following the discovery of a cannabis growhouse with up to €200,000 worth of drugs near Macroom. Gardai found the highly elaborate cannabis growhouse when they searched a rented property in Rusheen at around 10pm last night. Officers found harvested and growing cannabis plants with an estimated street value of around €200,000 in what they described as a sophisticated and well planned growing operation. The growhouse, which was located in a garage, included lighting and heating equipment as well as special ventilation systems and drying equipment to dry the harvested drugs. Detectives arrested four Polish men all in their 20s and 30s on the premises and brought them to Bandon Garda Station for questioning about the drugs haul. All four men were arrested under drugs trafficking legislation which allows gardai detain suspects for up to seven days before they have to be released or charged. Last night's discovery is the third major cannabis growhouse operation found by gardai in Mid-Cork this year and follows similar such seizures in West Cork and North Cork.
