Ceiling collapse at Cork University Hospital

It happened in an out-patients department at the hospital.

An inspection has been launched after a ceiling collapsed in an out-patients department at Cork University Hospital.

A number of people had to be evacuated following the incident which happened at around 8.30am as out-patients were gathering for a clinic in the ophthalmic unit.

Two units of Cork City Fire Brigade attended the scene and it's understood the area suffered significant water damage.

It's believed that a major leak may have forced the ceiling to give way.

No injuries have been reported and the damage is being assessed but some out patient appointments have been deferred as a result.
