Celebrations are to get underway at Cork airport this afternoon

The inaugural transatlantic flight from Cork to Boston Providence lifts off

Low-cost airline Norwegian Air International received a licence to operate flights Leeside, three years after requesting the permit.

The new direct route has been described as a game changer and it's expected to have a positive impact on tourism, investment and connectivity for Cork and surrounding counties.

The flight is due for departure at twenty past four today with almost 150 passengers on board.
 
Speaking to RedFM News Communications Manager with Cork Airport Kevin Cullinane says everything looks to be on schedule for a historic day at Cork airport.
