CervicalCheck Are Considering Sending Irish Smear Tests Abroad To Europe Or Australia To Cope With The Backlog
Women across the country are currently waiting up to 18 weeks for the results of their tests
A spokesperson for the HSE has said that despite the increased overtime, the backlog of 60,000 tests has the existing laboratories running at full capacity.
The surge is due to the take-up of additional free tests for women in the wake of the CervicalCheck scandal, in which over 200 women had their smear tests misread.
