Chef shortage Leeside forces businesses to recruit abroad

A national shortage of chefs will threaten the future of the tourism industry in Cork.

That's according to the Restaurant Association of Ireland who say they are currently holding recruitment fares in Eastern Europe in an effort to fill vacancies across Munster.

The RAI says they need 5,000 chefs annually in order the meet the needs of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers across the country, but only 1,800 trained chefs are graduating each year.

That means that Cork businesses are having to go abroad to recruit for their kitchens.

Speaking to RedFM News Chief Executive of the Restaurant's Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins says business owners have no choice but to look for staff abroad:
