Chernobyl Cycle Challenge

The Event: This is Chernobyl Children Internationals biggest fundraising event of 2013 and funds raised will go towards our Medical Programmes, including Vesnova children’s mental asylum. When Irish volunteers first discovered the Institution, 12 years ago, children there were living in squalor; under nourished, some tied to radiators and chairs all day long and receiving little if any medical attention. CCI’s work with volunteers have transformed what was once a grim and forbidding Children’s Mental Institution into a centre which provides internationally acclaimed and life changing care for over 170 boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 17. Date: Saturday 27 July Venue: Highfield Rugby Club, Bishopstown, Cork have kindly offered their support and use of the grounds providing Parking, Hot Showers, area for our FREE BBQ and the Club House Bar will be open for a few celebratory drinks. Sponsors: The Edge Sports and McKesson Supported by: Herlihy’s Centra, SuperValu and RED FM Time: Registration from 8.30am. Start time 10am. Route: One day circular route on a scenic journey through West Cork. We leave Highfield at 10am Saturday 27 July and for the 100KM route will go to Dripsey, Macroom (by-passing town), Bandon and back to Bishpstown. The 50KM route will turn back at Dripsey. Registration: Registration fee of €30 and each participant is being asked raise €120 for Chernobyl Children (optional). Official sponsorship cards will be posted once you sign up to help you reach this target or your own!! A great way to fundraise for the cycle is through mycharity.ie. You would be surprised how you get on if a few friends sponsor you. It takes less than five minutes to set up and you can e-mail the link for your page to anyone who might sponsor you or share your page and information on the event on your Facebook page. All registered participants will receive a commemorative Jersey & Certificate of Completion. Rent a bike: The Edge Sports and McKesson are our main sponsors on the day. The Edge will have a bike mechanic on hand and offer a rent a bike facility at a reduced rate for this weekend also.
