Child Homelessness On The Rise

Child homelessness has jumped by over two thirds in the last twelve months.

Figures released by the Department of the Environment last night indicate over 2,200 children were homeless last month.

That's 67 per cent higher than the numbers for June last year.

In total, 11 hundred families were homeless around the country.

Meanwhile a new report from the progressive think tank TASC, claims consistent child poverty almost doubled during the recession.

It rose from 6.3 per cent in 2008 to 11.2 per cent in 2014.
