Childcare crisis in Cork could effect most vulnerable children
Hundreds of children in Cork could be without childcare in September.
That's According to the Cork Equal and Sustainable Communities Alliance, who say changes to legislation, lack of funding and the low payment of the Single Affordable Childcare scheme, may force seven crèches in the city to close.
The community crèches in Togher, Ballypheahane, Shandon, Mayfield, Ballyvolane, Mahon and Churchfield look after vulnerable children under three years of age.
Representative from the crèches met with Minister Katherine Zappone to highlight the plight of the childcare workers, who will lose their jobs if the facilities close.
Speaking to RedFM News Tehmina Kazi from CESCA says the most vulnerable children in these areas will be left without vital early intervention:
