Children will continue to receive food parcels throughout the summer holidays
The School Meals Programme is usually only available during the academic year, but an exception has been made due to the impact of the pandemic on families
Over 1,500 schools take part in the scheme nationwide.
Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys says it will help support many families.
"For some children. That means it will be delivered to a or the packs will be delivered to their homes and for some, they will be collected at school so that's that's an arrangement that will be made. And I just want to thank all the schools who have participated in the school meals programme, it takes a considerable amount of effort from both the principals and the staff to roll this out."
