City boundary extension continues to be a major deal breaker for the implementation of the MacKinnon Review

Cork City Council are calling on the Governement to implement the recommendation so review immediately

However the review has been met with significant opposition by the County Council who cite the loss of revenue as a major concern.

If implemented the city's population is to increase by 100,000 due to the inclusion of areas such as Carrigtowhill, Blarney and Cork Airport within the city remit.

Council members met with the author of the MacKinnon review earlier this week where the boundary extension and compensation package for the county council were discussed.

Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Tony Fitzgerald says the city and county council need to work together to implement the report.
