City Centre Traders Are Calling For The Patrick Street Car Ban To Be Lifted In Time For Christmas

The controversial afternoon ban on private vehicles was reintroduced in August

A City Centre trader due in court today over unpaid rates says the Patrick street car ban has had a huge impact on her business.

Susan Ryan owns a Beauty Salon on South Main Street and has been trading in the city since 1981.

In a post on social media Susan said she has seen revenues fall by over 30~% as most of her older clients depend on a driver to get them into the city.

She wrote that Cork City Council moved the goal post when they introduced the daily private car ban and described the difficulty of competing with shopping centres who offer free parking as a 'death knell'.

Another City Centre trader says some people are under the impression that the city is closed for business.

Tom Murphy made the comments following calls from concerned traders for the car ban to be lifted in time for Christmas.

Traders are reporting a large decline in sales, with some traders saying they're considering moving their business out of the city.

Tom Murphy from Tom Murphy Menswear says it could work a third time round.
