City Centre Traders Meeting Hears Car Ban Has Led To Cut In Staff Hours

A meeting of city centre traders last night heard that the private car ban on Patrick Street has led to some business owners cutting staff hours.
Over 300 people turned out at the meeting last night to discuss the impact of the new measure which sees cars prohibited from the city's main street between 3pm and 6.30pm every day.
Emotions were running high as many traders described a 30 -50% drop in business over the past three weeks.
There was a unanimous show of hands for the restrictions to be removed by City Council and a call for all traders to attend next Monday's City Council meeting.
Traders were very criticial of City Council's movement strategy, which they say needs time to bed in.
There were just seven elected members of Cork City Council present however no official atteneded the meeting.
Speaking to Cork's RedFM CBA President Phillip Gillivan says city centre traders will fill the gallery at a meeting of Cork City Council on Monday where the City Council will come under increasing pressure to reverse the ban:
