City council ask for the public's help in the search for a highly invasive rodent Leeside

The discovery of the one metre long South American Coypu on the banks of the Rive Lee, has been described as a "serious issue"

The National Parks and Wildlife Service say it's a threat to our native wildlife, and they're trying to cull the animal before it spreads.

A report from the Evening Echo describes the animal as a very large rat with distinctive large orange-yellow teeth  and they have been linked to the spread of diseases such as toxoplasmosis and leptospirosis.

The council are asking anyone who spots the animal to make note of the location and take a photo if possible.
