City Council called on to cancel current rent review

The Council came under fire this week for sending out rent review forms which asked for PPS numbers and threatened a €25 rent hike per week.

The spotlight is on the rental sector in Cork again today.

It comes following calls from the People’s Convention on Cork City Council to cancel its current Rent Review which the group says is inappropriate.

The Council came under fire this week for sending out rent review forms to tenants which asked for PPS numbers and threatened a €25 rent hike per week if the forms were not filled out.

A public meeting is being held in Mahon community centre today by the People’s Convention in response to calls from worried tenants.

Meanwhile the Simon Community has said the PRTB's report, which shows that rents rose by nearly 7% in the first three months of the year, compared to the same time in 2014, is extremely worrying.

The charity says the rental crisis has now spread across the country including Leeside where the average rent now stands at €776 in the county and €858 in the city.
