City Council to repair Shandon Clock

The Neil Prendeville Show and Cork’s New RedFM 104-106 are delighted with the news this afternoon that Cork City Council will put finance in place to repair the Shandon Clock. The Finance department of the Council has managed to ring-fence funding in accordance with the best tender price for repair to ensure the clock is restored to its former glory. Listen below to Neil Prendeville's reaction to the news. The Neil Prendeville Show launched the ‘RedFM Shandon Appeal’ this week to raise funds to restore the iconic landmark which had ceased working 9 months ago. The council had advised Cork’s RedFM that no funds would be available to fix the clock until the 2015 budget. Cork’s New RedFM decided to take matters into their own hands and launched an online public appeal on Tuesday 20th May. The fundraising initiative has been hugely successful over the last 48 hours, with individuals, businesses and ex-pats coming on board to donate funds. The Neil Prendeville Show team and a number of Cork businesses were in the process of organising a month long calendar of events and fundraising initiatives to reach our target of €40,000 euro. Presenter Neil Prendeville has expressed his delight this afternoon that Cork City Council has finally listened to the people of Cork “I think it is overwhelming news, it’s fantastic. I mean, obviously I’m a little bit puzzled as to where they found the money from all of a sudden. One minute it’s not there, the next minute it’s there – but hey - it’s there. The money has been found. This is all about people power. The people of Cork getting behind their city, owning their city and being proud of their city. If the RedFM campaign and the big push was not on since last week, this clock would still be broken and it certainly wouldn’t be sorted out any time soon. So I think it’s brilliant. It’s a major thumbs up to everyone in Cork and it’s a well done to all” We will be making contact with individuals and businesses who gave donations to the ‘RedFM Shandon Appeal’ and we thank them hugely for their continued support of The Neil Prendeville Show on Cork’s New RedFM 104-106. Included below is an incredible painting of Shandon Clock in all it's glory by Keith Anderson.
