Cityjet warns flights out of Ireland could cease

An airline is warning that there may not be flights out of Ireland due to the increased penalties facing passengers.
Cityjet is reacting to plans to increase fines for non-essential travel abroad from €500 to €2,000 per person.
It comes as more than 5,000 Irish residents arriving at Dublin Airport last week were returning from holidays.
Founder and Chair of Cityjet, Pat Byrne, says lockdowns are causing a lot of damage.
"Who defines what non essential travel actually is?
"If you treat the airline industry, which is already on its knees, like this there may not be even be flights out of Ireland.
"Airlines can't just say we have to now ignore the non essential travel.
"How many people are we going to have on airplane? And how does the government think the economics of the airline industry actually work?
"Although I can proberly answer that question myself - they don't actually care."
