Claims license application for Ringaskiddy incinerator is invalid

The oral hearing over the proposed plans got underway this week.

Objectors to the proposed Ringaskiddy Incinerator claim the application for a licence to operate is invalid.

The €160 million project was first proposed by Indaver Ireland 15 years ago and mounting public animosity towards the controversial development shows no sign of letting up.

At the Oral Hearing this week, a solicitor representing the Cork Harbour Area for a Safe Environment has questioned the validity of the application citing a difference in the company name on the application form and the company name on public notices.

Health and safety concerns are among other issues being raised this week as well as the impact on tourism.

However at the hearing Indaver Ireland refuted claims that incinerators account for 70% of all dioxins. The company also moved to allay fears that a recent explosion at its Antwerp site could happen in Cork.

These protesters were among 400 that arrived on day one of the hearing to voice their concerns.
