Clonakilty wins Urbanism Award

Clonakilty has been voted the best town in the UK and Ireland.
It beat over 40 other towns to win the "Great Town" Award 2017 at the Urbanism Awards Ceremony in London.
The award is one of five given out to recognise the most improved urban environments.
The Market town was praised for the quality of the design and maintenance of the main street and Emmett Square.
Michelle Grant who leads the assessment team for the awards commented on the town saying;
“The quality of the town centre and the town’s location close to the sea and beautiful beaches make it an attractive place to live, do business and visit.
“Clonakilty is a good example of those three elements coming together in a sustainable way that celebrates local distinctiveness, tradition, entrepreneurialism and a strong sense of local pride.”
The Urbanism Awards are the same organisation that handed the Great Street Award to Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork City last year.
Other winners included Copenhagen for European City of the Year and Waterford's Viking Triangle won The Great Place Award.
