Closure Of The Waterloo Junction Could Be Reversed Before Christmas

The turnoff was closed following a safety audit after a number of fatal collisions in recent years

It's been confirmed to RedFM News that the highly controversial closure of the Waterloo junction could be reversed before Christmas.

County Council engineers are set to deliver a plan which has been developed in conjunction with Transport Infrastructure Ireland which it's expected will recommend a left turn in/out system at the Waterloo Junction.

The turnoff was closed following a safety audit after a number of fatal collisions in recent years however the closure caused outrage among locals who said other options should have been explored.

Locals, who are calling the road to be reopened fully, say the impact on Blarney and surrounding areas has been devastating and is splitting the community as well as presenting difficulties for school goers in the area.

Concerns have also been raised about increased volumes of traffic on secondary routes approaching Blarney, which locals say is dangerous as the roads are not able to cope with the traffic volumes.

Speaking to RedFM News Aidan Weir of Cork City Council says they'll do everything they can to see deliver the plan before Christmas:
