Coastguard issues warning as Storm Frank roars

Storm Frank is expected to hit the west, north west and south coast this afternoon - with the storm reaching hurricane force winds out to sea. 

While this level of wind won't reach the mainland the wind and rain will be extensive. 

The flow of water through Parteen Weir and Inniscarra have both increased - and it's expected that discharge rates from the Inniscarra Dam may hit their highest levels yet this winter.

ESB last night confirmed it was increasing Inniscara dam discharge rate from 180 cubic meters of water per second to 200 - that's higher than the top discharge rate during the peak of Storm Desmond.

Meanwhile amid an Orange weather warning in Cork local Authorities are advising motorists to avoid all non-essential travel. 

The Lee Road has been closed to traffic and there are reports of spot flooding around the county.

Elsewhere the Coastguard has issued an appeal to members of the public to exercise caution.
