Community National Schools To Make Provision For Communion Preparation Classes

There are currently 12 of these schools in the country, two of which are here in Cork - in Mallow and Carrigtwohill

Community National Schools in Cork, who will be taking formal religious instruction for pupils off the timetable, say they will make provisions for those who want to receive their first holy communion. 

The state-run schools offer a multi-belief programme for entire classes unless instruction in particular faiths such as holy communion preperation classes are requested. 

The Education and Training Board say the decision to no longer hold the communion preperation classes is based on the needs of all children.

Speaking to RedFM News director of schools with Cork Education Training Board Pat McKelvey says if particular religious instruction is needed in the future it will be catered for outside of school:
