Concern about planned new tanker in East Cork
Concern has been expressed about a liquefied natural gas tanker planned to be permanently moored in Cork Harbour.
The tanker is planned to be located close to the Whitegate and Aghada gas-powered electricity stations on the east side of the harbour and will be used to store liquefied natural gas which the Green Party say will be imported by sea from fracking operations in the United States.
Onshore fracking was banned in Ireland in June of this year and the plans have been met with stiff opposition.
Speaking to RedFM News Oliver Moran of the Green Party says if this development is given the green light it amounts to a hypocritical approach to environmentalism:
