UCC Students Speak Out To RedFM News About Issue Of Sexual Assault

Students in UCC have told RedFM News they're not surprised that weeks like Freshers Week and Rag Week result in an increase in presentations to the Cork clinic.


The Health Minister says he's concerned on a professional and personal level that Sexual Assault Treatment Units, including the one here in Cork, are seeing a spike in presentations around popular student nights out. 

There's been an 11% increase in presentations to the six units in the country over the past 4 years.

Additional investment in the units is set to increase by €500,000 this year, after a recent report found the services are under pressure.

Meanwhile some students in UCC have told RedFM News they're not surprised that weeks like Freshers Week and Rag Week result in an increase in presentations to the Cork clinic.

Speaking to RedFM News this UCC student says instances of sexual assault are everywhere on a night out and she says her friend was recently threatened on a walk home from a night out in the city
