Concern Expressed Over The Possible Merger Of Three Cork Schools

The North Monastery all-boys school, Saint Vincent's all girls school and North Presentation all girls school say they are exploring the future of catholic education provision on the northside of the city

Parents of some pupils attending one of the schools on the northside of the city where merger talks have begun have expressed their opposition to the move

The North Monastery all-boys school, Saint Vincent's all girls school and North Presentation all girls school say they are exploring the future of catholic education provision on the northside of the city.

However the parents association at St Vincent's all girls school say the merger would be regressive if it goes against the wishes of the students and the parents

The three single-sex, northside secondary schools have begun talks to consider merging.

In a statement issued to the Echo the parents association at St Vincent's say they wish to reaffirm the rights of their daughters and of every young girl from the northside to an all girls secondary education if that is what she desires

A member of the association says they want to ensure that parents are given a choice to send their daughters to an all girls school or a mixed school in the locality

A statement issued by the trustees of the three schools have confirmed that a consultation process has now begun which will seek to gather the perspectives of boards of management, staff, students and parents
