Child finds four bags of heroin in Mahon

Concern has been expressed about the rising incidence of unsafe drug paraphernalia in Cork after a child found four bags of heroin in the Mahon area.

The Evening Echo reports that the child found heroin and brought it back to his house - it was later handed in to gardaí who are now investigating.

However the incident has sparked fears about the mounting drug problem in the area with residents reporting that syringes are being thrown into their back gardens.

Syringe bins have recently been installed in two areas on the Northside of the city in a bid to curb the unsafe disposal of drugs - and it's expected the initiative will be rolled out in other areas if it proves effective.

Meanwhile injecting rooms are expected to be installed out Leeside following their planned roll out in Dublin later this year.

Speaking to RedFM News Detective Inspector Declan O'Sullivan at Angelsea St Garda station says they're doing everything they can to tackle the sale and supply of all types of drugs on Cork streets:
